Demonstration over eco-town plan

Opponents have claimed the town will overwhelm the area
Campaigners fighting plans to build a 20,000 home eco-town in Leicestershire have staged a protest.
The group CASCET - Campaign Against the Stoughton Co-op Eco-town - held a demonstration in Stoughton on Saturday.

The Co-op, which owns much of the land concerned near Great Glen said the plans would not encroach on neighbouring villages.

The idea is part of a government programme to create 10 carbon neutral settlements across the country.

Public consultation

Campaigners argue that the development would ruin the mostly rural area.

Ann Bond, who organised the protest, said: "I'd just like to know where they expect all this traffic to go.

"The A6 is like a car park most days already but there will be approximately an extra 30,000 vehicles if this project is allowed to go ahead."

Thousands of people have already signed a petition against plans on the 10 Downing Street website.

More than 50 proposals have been sent to the government and a decision is expected this month.

The Co-op has said there would be a full public consultation if the proposal was short-listed.

原来是这个事儿呀，怪不得今天从morrisons出来就在它家停车场塞了45分钟车，是确是看到有人在游行
